No running around - Just Teach!

Reading Friends

40 zigzag books to use in class to achieve the AS of LO 3 (Reading & Viewing).

There are 4 differentiated sets with 10 different books in each set.

You may print as many copies as you need for your groups
so that all the learners have a zigzag book to read.

Set 1: Has only pictures to study and discuss. The AS of the LO is indicated on top, as well as how the book integrates with other LA.

Set 2: Pictures to study and discuss and words the educator will read.

Set 3: Pictures to study and discuss and sentences the educator will read.

Set 4: Pictures with a story to study and discuss. The educator will indicate and read the sentences. Later learners can read along in a group.

Set 5: Picture books with easy sentences for group or own reading.

Sets 6 – 16: Stories or facts books that progressively have more sentences and new vocabulary.

All books are integrated with other Learning Areas and their Learning Outcomes.

Each set contains key words on flashcards for each book.

An example of a zigzag book with six pages: It has a front page and five pages to read.

If a learner begins with Set 1 of Reading Friends in Grade R and reads forty books each year, he or she would have read 160 books by the end of the Foundation Phase.

The zigzag books can also be used in other grades for First or Second Additional Language reading or Learning Support Education.
